Another kind of art world possible?

The final report of the 'Helsinki model' art pilots (Helsingin malli) was published today at a seminar in Kulttuurimylly, Jakomäki. The aims of of the 3-year pilot by Helsinki City were to increase a democratic access and participation to art. 12 art institutions worked in the suburban districts of Jakomäki, Kaarela/Kannelmäki, Maunula and Vuosaari in 2016-18.

m-cult's evaluation report of the pilot inspired the name of publication - Another Kind of Art World (Toisenlainen taidemaailma, pdf) - and was quoted in its back cover:

"Should we then conclude that community-based, locally produced art projects are doomed into their own ghetto, outside of the mainstream art world? Or should we think that they contribute to another kind of art world, where art processes grow into an organic part of the local public sphere? Encouraged by the experiences in Maunula, m-cult follows this path where art agency is based on collectively produced and shared cultural resources - the commons."
