In the animation workshop, we experiment with children and open tools for creating 2D animations. The workshop introduces a variety of techniques - cut out, stop motion and motion tracking - and uses objects and drawings as materials for small animations.
The first workshop was realized with pre-school kids at Kontupiste media space in Kontula, Eastern Helsinki in October-December 2010.

Every day in December, a new animation is projected at the Lasipalatsi square and published at M2HZ and Stadi.TV.
Made by 1st and 2nd year schoolkids of Kontula, the animations show familiar objects with strange behaviours and present unfamiliar but friendly creatures - also the sounds were co-created with the children in the lively animation workshop at Kontupiste!
The second round of animation workshops at Kontupiste kicked off today with 1st and 2nd -grade schoolchildren. Over 6 weeks, the workshop produces an animated Christmas calendar using a variety of techniques.
The animation workshop with Kontula pre-school children focused on Christmassy themes, and the resulting animations have been compiled into a Christmas calendar which follows the preparations of a big feast.
Each day between December 1 and 24, a new animation will appear on the M2HZ and Stadi.TV channels, and as outdoor projections at Kontula shopping centre and Lasipalatsi Square.
The animation workshop for children started today in Kontula. A group of pre-schoold kids took over workstations at Kontupiste, creating animations with objects and Pencil, the open source drawing program. The workshop continues with 5 more sessions, introducing a new technique for each group, using FLOSS software such as StopMotion and Animata.
The resulting animations will be compiled into a Christmas calendar which will be presented in Kontula and Lasipalatsi and published within StadiTV & M2HZ programming.
