Now open: Protocols for Melting: Augmented Reality Walk

Last week, we launched Protocols for Melting in Helsinki abd Riga with a walk and artist talk, sharing insights into the work with artists Joonas Hyvönen and Līga Spunde. In Helsinki we also heard local activists Manki Perukangas and Mina Laamo sharing thoughts on the snow-dumping site.
An augmented reality walk transforms a physical place into a layered experience. As you walk through the park with your phone, digital artworks open up around you – shifting the familiar paths into spaces of imagination. The walk connects the body’s movement with virtual elements, allowing you to see the environment in a new way. At Protocols for Melting, you will find signs and fish who guide you through new ways of thinking at the part.
How to access the work in Helsinki:
Head to Helsinki Central Park - a good starting point is from Maunula.
When you are on site, open the art work here: https://maunulaprotocols.m-cult.org/
And follow the steps:
Allow access: Enable device orientation and location tracking when prompted.
Follow the Trout: The indicator shows the shortest path, but all stops are reachable via formal park routes.
Activate AR stops: When you reach a designated location, open the augmented reality element as instructed. To continue, simply close it.
Observe the melting.
If access issues occur:
iOS
If orientation and movement access are blocked, erase the site data (Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data → Remove All Website Data) or open the site again in private browsing mode.
Android
